Under the project, physical events will take place at SOOOON SPACE, with the main objective of uncovering the recent history of Tbilisi’s urban transformation as depicted in Soviet cinematography, as well as in films and video art from independence to the present day. Moving images are considered powerful documents, reflecting evolving trends in urban development and architecture, along with the city’s shifting social, political, and economic narratives. Each screening will be accompanied by additional activities, including sound performances, pop-ups, artist talks, workshops, and more.
This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to presenting the narratives about the city in innovative and creative ways, at the crossroads of artistic and scientific approaches.
Within the “Cinematic Cityscape: Tbilisi Urban Narratives in Film” project, through film-based explorations of Tbilisi’s recent history, we aim to foster public engagement, enhance the city’s visibility among local and global communities, and promote cultural exchange.
About SOOOON SPACE
As mentioned, the main collaborator of the project is SOOOON SPACE, an independent multidisciplinary space in Tbilisi that brings together a studio, a gallery, a library, and a garden. SOOOON SPACE creates an environment where art, design, nature research, and contemporary cultural practices coexist and enhance one another. SOOOON SPACE is conceived as a living organism — a place where ideas emerge, projects grow, and people connect. Here you can work, observe, read, experiment, learn, and simply be part of something larger.
