“Rocks and Waters”. Lecture by Andreia Garcia, student workshop exhibition by UCL and Ubani

This collateral event for TAB program features ‘Hydropolitics: A journey through the Fertile Futures research laboratory’, a lecture by Andreia Garcia, architect, curator, and researcher, accompanied by the launch of an exhibition showcasing the UCL students’ and Ubani cartography workshop outcomes.

Andreia Garcia, PhD researcher of Lisbon School of Architecture and the curator of the Portuguese Pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia, will speak about Hydropolitics and Hydroflexibility: the role of bodies of freshwater in the city. This presentation will focus on the laboratorial dimension of this project. From architectural research in dialogue with other fields of knowledge, Andreia will talk about the ability to move forward, seeking to imagine futures for humans and more than humans, requiring a constant contribution of multidisciplinary discourses. While discussing exploratory strategies for the management, protection, and transformation of freshwater we aim to contribute to a debate that is common and global.

The lecture is accompanied by the exhibition showcasing the UCL students’ and Ubani cartography workshop outcomes. During the workshop organised by Ubani, students from University College London were researching the relationship between Tbilisi’s physical features and the consequences of this for the city’s urban development, to better understand how natural affects the social. The cartographic outcomes of this research will be presented at the exhibition accompanying the lecture.

The title "Rocks and Waters" emphasises the interconnection between urban waters and the city's body, which includes both landscape and architecture, linking the event to the early years of Ubani’s research programs.
